Ready for School–(well, almost)

A while ago, I wrote a post entitled “The Beauty of Everyday Moments.” In it I discussed the possibilities that might spring from boredom, and the realities behind many of the beautifully staged homeschools in online photos. So, in that spirit, our days haven’t been in any way spectacular, but it’s been a fantastic summer.

We were invited to a couple of conferences this summer. Personally, I am not in the season of buying too much curriculum; as a matter of fact, I am determined to give much of what I have away. But conferences are a great way to see what else is going on around the homeschooling world, and to interact directly with more people as a way of articulating your point. An additional benefit of our travels is that I got to visit family and old friends, as well as connect with new ones in real life.

We returned home to get ready for my dance mom season #19. The youngest began a new year at a new studio for the second time in as many years, partly because of studio closings, partly because of seeking more technical challenges. As for me , the only thing that feels challenged is my purse strings. But the Lord is faithfully providing where He leads us to go.

As glamorous as all of that might sound, at some point, we must address our academics. With two weeks left (our tentative start is the 19th), I am still trying to decide upon a text to fill in gaps with our chemistry curriculum. I am still detailing a realistic reading list, given her work and dance schedule, as well as my own needs to write, to read, and to just be. With all the question marks, it would be easy to usher in doubt and fear. This one thing I do know, however: God’s people perish where there is no vision (Proverbs 29:18, NIV). So we begin with the visual of where she wants to go, placed firmly in front of her planner (see the featured photo). I do also have a feel for her daily schedule. Where are we going from there? Only the Lord knows.
